As full-time RVers, we’re always on the lookout for campgrounds that offer a solid mix of convenience, comfort, and value. During our travels through southern Oregon, we spent nine nights at the Klamath Falls KOA in Altamont—a small community just outside Klamath Falls. Whether you’re passing through or planning to explore the surrounding area, this KOA serves as a solid home base with easy access to Crater Lake, Lava Beds National Monument, and some fantastic birding at the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge.
We rolled in during early March 2020, just as winter was starting to loosen its grip (and right before the pandemic hit full force). Here’s what we found during our stay—including what we loved, what could be improved, and why we’d definitely consider coming back.

Our Stay
Lisa and I stayed here from March 9–18, 2020 in a 70’ pull-through site with 30 & 50-amp service and full hookups. The site had a small patio area that was partially fenced—handy if you’re traveling with dogs.
While the sites were close together, it didn’t feel too cramped. A small creek meanders through the park, adding to the overall peaceful atmosphere.
Despite some late-season snow, the staff was incredibly accommodating and helped us extend our stay without any issues. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, professional, and ready to help.
Pricing
We paid about $35 per night for a full-hookup, 50-amp pull-through site using our KOA membership discount. That’s a solid value for what we got.

Probably one of the nicest laundry rooms we’ve come across in an RV park.
- 10 washers: $2 per 30 minutes
- 8 dryers: $2 per 45 minutes
- 2 oversized dryers: $0.25 per 5 minutes
- Clean, well-decorated, and functional
- Quarters available in the office
✅ Restrooms & Showers
Located at the main office and the laundry room. We didn’t use them since we had full hookups, but they appeared clean and well-maintained.
✅ Dog Runs
Two dog areas:
- One very small (good for quick potty breaks)
- One larger and better for stretching legs
That said, we did have issues with loose dogs. Four different dogs were off-leash during our stay, one of which charged Sierra. The owner had no leash but managed to get control. We reported it to the office and didn’t have any further issues.
✅ On-Site Fuel & Propane
The KOA sells gasoline and propane onsite, and both were some of the cheapest in town when we visited. During the early days of the Coronavirus outbreak, lines for propane were long.
✅ Camp Store & Game Room
The “lodge” includes a small store with camping essentials and fun extras. There’s also a game room next to the laundry.
✅ Pool
They have one—but it was closed for the season during our March visit.
✅ Playground
Nice, safe space for kids to play.

🏞️ Crater Lake National Park
About an hour north of the campground. One of the most stunning lakes in the U.S. and well worth the drive.
🌋 Lava Beds National Monument
Roughly an hour south—an otherworldly place filled with lava tubes you can hike and explore. Bring a flashlight and wear good shoes!
🦅 Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge
Incredible birdwatching year-round, but especially during migration. We saw tons of bald eagles, hawks, and waterfowl.
🥾 Hiking & Kayaking
Lots of trails, rivers, and lakes nearby. Southern Oregon is an underrated outdoor playground.
Final Thoughts
Overall, we had a great experience at the Klamath Falls KOA. The park is clean, the staff is helpful, and the location is excellent for exploring the area. While the loose dogs were a concern, the issue was handled once we reported it. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
