Blue Angels Park – Blue Angels Recreation Area Campground Review

During our Gulf Coast travels, we stayed at Blue Angels Park, part of the Blue Angels Recreation Area near Pensacola, Florida. This military campground sits along Perdido Bay and is available to active duty, retired military, and DoD civilians. We camped here from June 15–22, 2023, and were excited for the mix of affordable rates, waterfront scenery, and the chance to explore Pensacola’s attractions—including the Blue Angels’ home base.

Location and Access

Blue Angels Park is just west of Pensacola, about 15–20 minutes from downtown. It’s part of a larger recreation area that includes two campgrounds: Battleship Row and Anchor Cove. We stayed in Battleship Row, site B-31, which put us close to the water and within walking distance of the marina and other amenities.

Access with our Class A motorhome and towed vehicle was fairly straightforward. The main entrance roads are paved, and while some interior turns are a little tight, it’s manageable for big rigs. The overall vibe of the park is relaxed and family-friendly, with a mix of seasonal guests and short-term stays.

Campsites

Battleship Row offers full hookup sites, while Anchor Cove has water/electric only. Being in site B-31, we had:

  • Full hookups with 50-amp service
  • Site size: Long enough for our rig and towed vehicle, though not overly spacious
  • Levelness: Required minor adjustment, but no big issues
  • Shade: Our site was partly shaded by mature trees, which helped with the June heat
  • Views: A short walk from our site gave us access to beautiful bayfront sunsets
  • Rates: As with most military campgrounds, the rates were very budget-friendly compared to civilian RV parks in the area

Amenities

Blue Angels Park offers a wide range of amenities that make it more than just a place to park:

  • Bathhouses and laundry facilities – convenient and well-kept
  • Dump station – available for non-sewer sites
  • Marina and boat launch – perfect for fishing or paddling
  • Fishing pier and beach area – great for relaxing by the water
  • Picnic pavilions and playgrounds – family-friendly spaces
  • Wi-Fi and cell service – AT&T and Verizon worked well during our stay

Things to Do Nearby

One of the best perks of camping here is proximity to Pensacola attractions:

  • Blue Angels practice sessions – We caught a few glimpses of the team flying overhead. If you time it right, you can see full practice shows
  • National Naval Aviation Museum – A must-see for aviation buffs, just minutes away on NAS Pensacola
  • Gulf Islands National Seashore – Perfect for hiking, swimming, and photography
  • Downtown Pensacola – Food, history, and culture just a short drive away
  • Water recreation – Kayaking on Perdido Bay would be awesome, launching right from the park

Our Experience

Staying at site B-31 in Battleship Row gave us a great balance of convenience and scenery. Evenings often meant sitting outside with Sierra, watching the sun dip behind Perdido Bay. The campground had a relaxed feel, and we enjoyed chatting with other military families who were also traveling.

The highlight was getting to see the Blue Angels in the sky—even just partial practice maneuvers felt special knowing we were so close to their home base. I also made time for the National Naval Aviation Museum, which was a huge highlight for me as an aviation enthusiast.
