RV Dinette Table Upgrade: From Cheap Formica to Custom Epoxy Ocean Table

Why We Replaced Our RV Dinette Table

Our RV dinette measures 42″ x 32″, and while the original table fit the space, it didn’t check any of the boxes we really wanted. We made a short wish list:

For our RV table, it was a perfect match. The rich golden tones of the wood complement the deep blues of the epoxy “ocean,” and the lighter weight (compared to many hardwoods) made it an excellent option for RV living.

The Custom Epoxy Ocean Table Build

The slab was cut to our dinette size and layered with epoxy resin to create the ocean scene. To protect the finish and give it incredible depth, the craftsmen added three coats of clear epoxy.

Six weeks later, we picked up our new table—and it was absolutely worth the wait.

Installing the New RV Dinette Table

The installation was straightforward but a bit cumbersome. Removing the old table was the easy part—just unscrew the mounting hardware and lift off the top.

Installing the new table took a little more effort. With the extra weight and thickness, it was definitely a two-person job. Lisa held the new table steady while I worked to get the alignment just right.

Once positioned, I marked the holes and drilled pilot holes for the first two screws in the rear support. Next, I lined up the angle bracket, drilled pilot holes centered in the sliding holes, and secured it in place. From there, everything flowed smoothly, and the table was solidly mounted.

The new table looks like a beach scene frozen in time. The rich tones of the Parota wood contrast beautifully with the swirling colors of the epoxy. The design captures the deep blues and teals of the ocean, blending seamlessly into the foamy whites of the waves crashing on the shore.

The glossy epoxy surface adds incredible depth, making it feel as if you’re gazing right into the water itself.

It’s not just beautiful—it’s functional. At about twice the thickness of the old Formica table, it feels solid and sturdy. Yes, it weighs nearly double what the factory table did, but the upgrade in quality makes it more than worth it.

Now, every time we sit at our dinette—whether it’s for breakfast, dinner, work, or trip planning—we’re reminded of why we chose to make this upgrade. It’s not just a table anymore. It’s functional art that adds warmth, character, and a sense of home to our RV.
