Located aboard Naval Station Mayport near Jacksonville, Florida, Osprey Cove offers a quiet, shaded campground that makes an excellent basecamp for exploring the Northeast Florida coast. During our stay, we not only enjoyed the beaches and Mayport area, but also took several day trips to historic St. Augustine.

About Osprey Cove RV Park
Osprey Cove RV Park is tucked away behind base housing beneath towering live oak trees draped with Spanish moss. The mature trees give the campground a peaceful atmosphere and provide plenty of much-needed shade from the Florida sun.
The campground offers 47 full-hookup RV sites with:

The sites are fairly spacious for a military campground, and the overall atmosphere feels relaxed and quiet.

Arrival & Check-In Experience
The day before our arrival, we received a text asking about our expected arrival time, which was a nice touch and helped make the check-in process feel organized. On the day we arrived, we were notified to check in with the camp host upon arrival.
Everything went smoothly, and we had no issues getting settled into our site. The campground was easy to navigate, even with a larger RV.
Our Campsite Experience
During our stay, we camped at Site 24, which was surrounded by several massive live oak trees that provided excellent shade during the nearly 90-degree Florida afternoons. The mature trees throughout the campground are one of the biggest advantages of staying at Osprey Cove, especially during the warmer months.
Our site was level, easy to get into, and had good spacing between Sites 23 and 25, so we never felt crowded. Although the campground lists the sites as 40 feet long, they are actually much longer than advertised. We had plenty of room for our motorhome and tow vehicle without feeling cramped.
The campground itself was very quiet during our stay, making it a relaxing place to come back to after spending the day exploring the area.
A Great Basecamp for Exploring Northeast Florida
One of the things we liked most about Osprey Cove was its location. The campground itself is peaceful, but you are still close to beaches, restaurants, shopping, and plenty of attractions throughout Northeast Florida.
During our stay, we made several trips to St. Augustine, which is only about an hour south of Mayport, depending on traffic. As the oldest continuously occupied European-established city in the United States, St. Augustine is filled with history, architecture, waterfront views, and great restaurants.
We enjoyed walking through the historic district, exploring the narrow streets lined with old buildings, and photographing landmarks throughout the city. St. Augustine offers a completely different atmosphere from Jacksonville and makes for an easy and enjoyable day trip from Osprey Cove.
During one of our trips to St. Augustine, we ate at Murray Bros. Caddyshack. Honestly, it was much better than we expected. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere inspired by the movie Caddyshack, but the food itself was surprisingly good. It ended up being one of the more enjoyable meals we had during our visits to St. Augustine.
Beaches, Fishing, and Outdoor Recreation
In addition to visiting St. Augustine, there is plenty to do close to the campground.

- Fishing piers and boat ramps
- The Mayport Ferry
The nearby beaches are perfect for morning walks, photography, or simply relaxing by the ocean.
Comparing Osprey Cove and Pelican Roost
Many RVers compare Osprey Cove to nearby Pelican Roost RV Park, which is also located aboard Naval Station Mayport.
Pelican Roost offers waterfront views and more of a resort feel, while Osprey Cove feels quieter and more residential. The mature oak trees at Osprey Cove provide far more shade, which can make a big difference during warmer months.
If your priority is waterfront scenery, Pelican Roost may be the better choice. If you prefer a quieter campground with shade and a more relaxed atmosphere, Osprey Cove is an excellent option.

Final Thoughts
We really enjoyed our stay at Osprey Cove RV Park. The peaceful atmosphere, massive live oak trees, and spacious sites made it one of the more relaxing campgrounds we have stayed at in Florida.
Site 24 worked out great for us, providing plenty of shade during the nearly 90-degree afternoons while still offering enough room for both our motorhome and tow vehicle. Sitting outside beneath the trees in the evenings gave the campground a calm, laid-back feel that is hard to find at many larger commercial RV parks.
Osprey Cove also proved to be an excellent basecamp for exploring Northeast Florida. Between the nearby beaches, local seafood, and our trips to St. Augustine, there was always something to do without needing to travel far.
For eligible military members, retirees, and veterans, Osprey Cove offers tremendous value, especially for longer stays. The combination of affordability, quiet surroundings, and convenient location makes it one of the better military campgrounds we have visited.
We would absolutely stay here again when visiting the Jacksonville area.
