What’s That Sound?
Luke AFB is home to the 56th Fighter Wing, which trains F-35 and F-16 pilots. That means you’ll hear regular jet noise—or as we like to call it, the Sound of Freedom. Bring earplugs if you’re sensitive to aircraft engines, but honestly, we loved it.

Our Experience
We stayed from March 1–15, 2021, primarily to enjoy Spring Training games in Peoria. This FamCamp was perfect—clean, quiet (when jets weren’t flying), and close enough to everything we needed. The lack of resort-style amenities didn’t bother us at all. With free laundry, good cell service, and affordable rates, it’s a no-brainer if you qualify.

Gear We Recommend for Staying at Saguaro Skies
Here are some of our favorite RV essentials that helped make our stay more comfortable:
- Surge Protector with EMS – Always protect your rig’s electronics
- Camco Water Filter – Phoenix water isn’t the tastiest
- Foldable RV Mat – For dust control on your site
- Portable Grill – Perfect for evening cookouts
Final Thoughts
If you’re eligible to stay at military campgrounds, Saguaro Skies FamCamp is one of the best values in the Phoenix area. It’s not fancy, but it’s clean, convenient, and quiet (except for those glorious fighter jets). Whether you’re headed to Spring Training, exploring the Sonoran Desert, or just passing through, this FamCamp delivers everything you need—and then some.

While living on base comes with many benefits, the constant coming and going of military personnel can make it challenging to find a home before you arrive in the area. In most cases, you’ll need to make temporary living arrangements while you wait for base housing, making the relocation process even more complicated and stress-inducing.
Thank you for your comments Luke AFB Housing. Housing seems to be an issue on a lot of bases we visit. With housing prices as high as they are it is hard for military personnel to purchase in some areas.
