Bayou Segnette State Park sits in Westwego, just across the Mississippi River from New Orleans. From your campsite, you can be in the French Quarter in about 20–25 minutes, depending on traffic. That proximity alone makes it one of the best options around if you don’t want to stay in a crowded commercial RV park.

The drive in is easy, too. Wide roads, clear signage, and a straightforward approach from Hwy 90 make arrival stress-free even for big rigs.

The campground is simple, well-maintained, and spread out enough to keep things peaceful. RVers will appreciate several highlights.

Full Hookups at a Great Price

One of the park’s unique features is its seasonal wave pool. It’s a fun break for families or anyone trying to cool off in the Louisiana heat.

One of the best parts about staying at Bayou Segnette State Park is how easy it is to dive into New Orleans during the day and return to peace and quiet at night. We made several trips across the river, and each one offered something a little different.

We spent a good amount of time wandering through the French Quarter, taking in the music, history, and architecture that make the whole area feel alive. Street performers, balconies draped in ironwork, and more incredible food than you can possibly sample in a single visit—it’s one of those places you can wander for hours.

We also explored several New Orleans cemeteries, which are incredibly unique with their above-ground tombs and fascinating history. Walking through them gives you a real sense of the city’s past.

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park was another highlight for us. The boardwalk trails through the wetlands offer some of the best wildlife viewing in the area. It’s a great place for photography, especially if you enjoy those moody swamp landscapes.

And because you can’t visit Louisiana without getting out on the water, we booked both a swamp tour and a high-speed airboat ride. The swamp tour is slow, peaceful, and great for spotting wildlife. The airboat ride, on the other hand, is all about speed and adrenaline. Together, they give you two totally different perspectives of Louisiana’s wetlands—and both are worth doing.

All of this is an easy drive from the campground, making Bayou Segnette the perfect launching point for exploring both the natural and cultural sides of southern Louisiana.

Humidity: It’s Louisiana—your AC will earn its keep.
