For more than 40 years, The Little Longhorn Saloon has been one of Austin’s best dive bars, hosting live music almost every night of the week. You’ll hear honky-tonk country, folk, rockabilly, and old-school rock and roll, with more than 600 bands gracing the stage every year.
But the real draw for many locals and visitors is Chicken Shit Bingo, a Sunday event that’s been going strong for over 25 years. It’s easily one of the weirdest, funniest, and most Austin experiences you can have.

What Is Chicken Shit Bingo?
Just like it sounds, Chicken Shit Bingo is bingo… but with chickens. The idea started when a local musician suggested replacing the cow from “Cow Shit Bingo” with chickens. At the time, owner Ginny famously said, “It’s never gonna last.”
Decades later, it’s still one of the most beloved traditions in Austin.
Here’s how it works:
- Every Sunday from 4:00–8:00 pm, the saloon fills up for the game.
- The crowd buys tickets with randomly assigned numbers.
- A chicken is placed on a large numbered board.
- When the chicken does her business, the number she lands on is the winner.
It’s part bingo, part roulette, and all Austin-style weird fun.
How to Play (and Win)
Tickets are sold before each round, and there are usually four rounds per Sunday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Ticket Prices: $2 for a regular ticket, $5 for a “Golden Ticket.”
- Payouts: Winnings are pooled from ticket sales—typically around $114 for $2 tickets and $285 for $5 tickets.
- Rules: Children, handicapped guests, and anyone 91 or older get to the front of the line. Ticket locations change each round, so pay attention to the Chicken Shit Official.
Winners are announced on stage by the band, and you’ll walk away with your cash prize—and bragging rights.
But that’s just the basics. There’s also music, fun, camaraderie, and lots of anticipation surrounding the unusual game, which is what keeps people coming back week after week.

Be warned—it does get busy. Arrive early if you want a good spot.
Once all the tickets are sold, the game begins. You may or may not end up getting a ticket depending on where you are in line. They do sell 2-3 different colored tickets to make sure there is plenty to go around. Plus the $5 Golden Tickets.
