Splendide DV6500X Stackable Dryer Review: 3.5 Years Later, Still the Best RV Laundry Upgrade

If you’re living the RV life full-time, you already know this truth: laundromats are the worst.

Laundry is one of those parts of full-time RV life that people don’t always talk about… until you’re knee-deep in quarters at a questionable laundromat.

When Lisa and I hit the road full-time over six years ago in our Thor Challenger 37YT, we didn’t have a washer and dryer on board. At first, we thought it would be fine—just hit up laundromats once a week and knock it all out at once. Easy, right?

Wrong.

It didn’t take long before we got tired of:

  • Dirty or broken machines
  • Long wait times
  • Bleach residue ruining clothes
  • And rising costs (we were spending over $100 a month on laundry!)

Why We Chose Splendide

When it comes to laundry appliances built for RVs, boats, and tiny homes, Splendide is the name that keeps coming up, for good reason. There aren’t a lot of 120V vented dryer options for RVers, and the DV6400X kept coming up in reviews and forums as the top choice.

We originally purchased the Splendide DV6400X vented dryer, paired with the WFL1300XD washer, and had them installed professionally at Camping World in Denton, TX.

Today, Splendide offers the updated DV6500X model—essentially the same unit we’ve used and loved, but with added features and improved drying cycles. We’ll cover both below to help you decide.

The DV6500X replaces the DV6400X but keeps the same dimensions, 120V operation, and vented drying—perfect for RV power systems.

Real-World Performance

This dryer works better than we expected. Despite being 120V, it dries a full load in about an hour, on par with the 240V dryer we had in our sticks-and-bricks home.

We average about a load a day, and the DV6400X hasn’t missed a beat.

Fast forward 3.5 years, and we’re still thrilled with the setup.

This review is our honest, long-term take on the Splendide DV6400X RV Dryer—what it does well, what could be better, and why it’s been one of the smartest upgrades we’ve made in our RV lifestyle.

Bottom line? If you’re buying new, go with the DV6500X. If you already have a DV6400X like us, no need to rush to upgrade—it’s still a workhorse.

Why We Ditched Laundromats

While the idea of doing all your laundry at once is appealing, laundromats have their drawbacks:

  • Inconsistent cleanliness (especially after a rainstorm)
  • Misuse of machines (like people using bleach or drying dirty gear)
  • High costs — we were spending $100–$120 a month!
  • Time wasted waiting around

At nearly $6 per load, it doesn’t take long to justify the cost of your own RV washer and dryer.

What We Love ❤️

  • Quiet operation — you won’t hear it over the TV.
  • No more laundromats! Freedom, convenience, and cleaner clothes.
  • Surprisingly fast drying times for a 120V unit.
  • Large drum capacity handles towels, sheets, and bulkier loads.

What Could Be Improved

  • No end-of-cycle buzzer. This caught us off guard a few times early on. Now we just set a phone timer.
  • Door design mismatch. The dryer door and washer door don’t match in shape. Not a big deal, but a bit of an aesthetic miss for a “matching set.”

The door on the DV6500X is now round to match the washer.

Cost Breakdown

  • Washer + Dryer (Installed): ~$2,800 at Camping World
  • DIY Install Savings: You could save hundreds if you install it yourself. We didn’t have the tools or time on the road, so we paid for convenience.

With our laundromat costs running $100–$120/month, we estimate a 2-year payback period. Sooner if prices keep climbing.

Our Experience After 3.5 Years of Full-Time Use

We’ve now had the Splendide DV6400X dryer for three and a half years, and we still love it. It’s been through all kinds of weather, humidity, dry desert air, and everything in between. We’ve used it nearly every day as full-time RVers, and it just keeps working.

Even after thousands of loads, it’s:

  • Still drying full loads in about an hour
  • Still running quietly and efficiently
  • Still saving us money month after month
  • Still one of the best decisions we’ve made for RV living

This dryer—and its matching washer—have truly made our full-time life on the road more convenient and comfortable.

Real-World Performance After 3.5 Years

Although we own the DV6400X, the new DV6500X performs similarly, just with a few upgraded drying options. Here’s what we’ve experienced over the years:

Dries a full load in about 1 hour
Super quiet—you hardly hear it running
Large drum fits bulky items like towels and blankets
No moldy laundromat dryers to worry about
Never once regretted the decision

Looking back, adding the Splendide DV6400X dryer (along with the WFL1300XD washer) was easily one of our top upgrades for full-time RV living. It’s saved us thousands of dollars, countless hours at laundromats, and a whole lot of hassle.

  1. That is for the review we are getting ready to install this washer and dryer in our rig. Here is my question. How hot does the dryer get. We feel like it’s not getting hot enough, thermostat and heating element all works. I just have never used a RV dryer, so not sure on the average!

    • Hello Jen, Thank you for your question. One thing to remember with the RV dryer is that it works on 120 volts, not 220 like a home dryer. We feel it still gets plenty hot to dry our clothes. It normally takes between 60-70 minutes to fully dry a load of laundry in our dryer which is totally acceptable to us.

  2. Check Amazon reviews on this DV6400X dryer. You’ll find serious cause for pause in the reported (drum spinning) motor bearings failure.
    Expect to replace/upgrade the bearings!!

    • Thank you for your concern. On Amazon this machine has 4.2 out of 5 stars. There is one review that mentions bearing noise. Sure they could have received a bad machine, who hasn’t received something bad from Amazon? The other one star review on Amazon gives no quantitative information, just don’t buy it. I dismiss these reviews instantly. 72% of people on Amazon give this dryer five stars. We have had our DV6400X Dryer for almost 2 years and use it every single day with no issues. For a 120 volt dryer it does a great job drying our clothes quickly and quietly. In our opinion along with the Splendide WFL1300XD washer it is a must have item if you’re a full-time RVer.

      Thank you for your input,
      Rob

    • That bearing is a teardrop brass collar that is easily replaced and costs less than 10 bucks. It should be the first thing checked when your dryer starts squealing. These should be on anyone’s list of preventive maintenance if you’re a full time RVer not complaining about it.

      • Thank you for your comments Michael. I agree! So many people would rather complain when an issue arises than actually take the time to repair it themselves. Full-Time RVing is not something one should go into if they can’t do basic maintenance.

  3. Have you done research on all the complaints about how the Splendide DV6400X does not heat up for many owners? I am one of those customers. Brand new under warranty and only gets up to 88 degrees. Will never dry.

    • No, I haven’t seen anything about the DV6400X not heating up. Ours has been working well. It dries a load in about 60 minutes. Sorry to hear you’re having problems with yours. Hopefully, Splendide stands behind it.
