Planning for Our 2023 Summer Road Trip is just about done. We’ll be hitting the road on May 29th following our winter workamping gig in Texas. We have over 5500 miles planned, hitting 16 states including the 7 we need to complete the lower 48.
National Parks
We love the National Parks but for the last few years, we’ve been limited to how many we could get. With Covid and staying in Yellowstone the last two summers, we haven’t hit nearly as many as we normally do. Well, this year we’re changing that. On this trip, we have at least 75 National Park Sites including National Parks, Monuments, Historical Sites, Trails, Battlefields, Sea Shores, and Preserves planned. We’ve hit a few of them before but there will probably be around 70 new parks for us to add to our list, which will bring us close to 300 total.
Not Just National Parks
We’re not just hitting the National Parks on this trip. Some of the other things we want to see include the French Quarter in New Orleans, Coca-Cola World, and Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta, The Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. We’re going to spend 10 days in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to attend The Great Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion. A full two weeks in our Nation’s Capital, Washington D.C., and 10 days in the Nashville area. As you can see there is a lot on this trip.
Lisa likes the Kendrick Brother’s Movies. If you don’t know about them, they are from Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, and originally put out low-budget faith-based movies that are really inspiring. Now they put out big-budget faith-based movies that are equally inspiring. So we’re going to make a side trip from Pensacola, Florida to Albany to go to church there.
After Albany, Georgia we’re heading back to Florida for two weeks in Orlando. One week at Disney’s Fort Wilderness with five days at Disney World. Then a second week at Orlando Thousand Trails to see the other sites in the area. I think Sierra will be more excited than we are, she gets a luxurious stay at Best Friends Pet Hotel at Disney World while we visit the parks!
Along the way, we hope to catch up with friends and family when we’re close by.
It’s going to be an epic trip!
