And after April of 2024, there won’t be another total solar eclipse widely viewable from the U.S. until 2045. The path is relatively narrow, so if you’re not in the path of totality, you’ll only see a partial eclipse. For this reason, find somewhere as close to the center of the path as possible.
Duration of Totality
The duration of totality varies depending on where you are along the path. The longest duration of totality for the 2024 eclipse will be around 4 minutes and 28 seconds in southern Illinois. The duration will be shorter the further you are from the centerline of the path.
One of the biggest factors in whether or not you’ll be able to see the eclipse is the weather. What If You Don’t Have a Safe Solar Filter/Viewer?
