Desert Breeze Travel Camp is a hidden gem for military-affiliated RVers looking for peace, quiet, and desert scenery. Located on the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground (YPG), about 20 miles north of Yuma, Arizona, this RV park offers full hook-ups, great spacing between sites, and access to the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. It was the perfect stop for us after a wet and muddy Quartzsite boondocking experience.

Campground Overview
Desert Breeze Travel Camp features 102 RV sites, each with full hook-ups (50-amp, water, and sewer). Sites are gravel with concrete patio pads and have plenty of space between rigs—definitely not your standard sardine-packed RV park. There are also tent camping sites, though the focus here is clearly on full-time RV travelers.
Amenities Include:

- Laundry room
- Recreation room
- Picnic areas
- Commissary, gas station, and convenience store nearby
It’s not fancy, but it’s incredibly functional—and above all—peaceful.

Desert Breeze is about:

Our Stay: Trading Rain for Sunshine
In January, we were boondocking at La Posa LTVA for the Quartzsite RV Show. We planned to stay a week, but a couple of rainy days (with more in the forecast) convinced us to move on early. That decision turned out to be wise—heavy downpours later caused flash flooding and even affected some vendors at the Big Tent.
We thought about heading to Imperial Dam LTVA, which honors the same LTVA pass, but when we arrived, there was zero cell signal—a dealbreaker for us. While Lisa waited in the motorhome, I drove to Desert Breeze Travel Camp to check availability. Luckily, they had a few spots open.
Campground Impressions
Desert Breeze Travel Camp was exactly what we needed: quiet, clean, and uncrowded. The sites are relatively new, and the infrastructure is solid. We appreciated the space between RVs, and the desert views were stunning—especially during sunset.
There’s not much in the way of organized activities or amenities beyond the basics, but honestly, we didn’t need that. After boondocking, it was great to:
- Relax in peace
- Plug in
- Fill our fresh tank
- Dump our gray and black tanks
Things to Do Near Yuma
While you’re at Desert Breeze, there’s plenty to explore in and around Yuma. Here are a few highlights we enjoyed:
🥤 Martha’s Gardens Medjool Date Farm
Home of the famous date shake—and it did not disappoint! This family-owned farm grows world-class Medjool dates. Stop by their farm store and café for a cool treat and a self-guided tour.
Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park
This historic prison operated from 1876 to 1909 and is now a museum. It’s one of Yuma’s top attractions and worth a couple of hours to explore the old cells and exhibits.
Los Algodones, Mexico – “Molar City”
Just a short drive away, Los Algodones is known for affordable dental care. If you’ve got dental work planned—or just want to explore a unique border town—this is a great day trip. Over 300 dentists serve thousands of visitors each week.
Final Thoughts
Desert Breeze Travel Camp isn’t a resort—and that’s a good thing. It’s a clean, affordable, no-frills RV park with full hookups and beautiful desert surroundings. The quiet atmosphere was a welcome change from the crowds at Quartzsite, and it gave us a chance to regroup, recharge, and plan our next leg of the journey.
