Splendide DV6400X Dryer Review

There are not a lot of choices when it comes to having a dryer in your RV. The Splendide DV6400X Dryer is one of a handful of dryers on the market that are 120 volts and made for small spaces.

Splendide DV6400X Dryer

One of the things that sold us on our Thor Challenger 37YT motorhome was the large bathroom with double sinks and a large closet for storage. After 2+ years of traveling the country, we have learned a lot about things we like and don’t like with Full-Time RVing.

The top thing on our list of dislikes is laundromats! They are so hit or miss, and usually miss. While we like being able to do all our laundry at one time. Most laundromats are not kept as clean as we’d like. The costs of laundromats are going up like everything else is currently. We’ve found it can cost as much as $6 to wash and dry a load of laundry. At those prices, it won’t take too long to pay for a washer and dryer for an RV.

We’ve found out not to use them after rain because the homeless like to dry their sleeping bags without washing them first, leaving the dryers a mess. People like to use too much bleach so unsuspecting people behind them end up with bleached clothes. The list goes on and on.

Finally, after our Workamping gig in Yellowstone, we decided this winter we would have a washer and dryer put into our motorhome. This meant we would lose our storage closet in the bathroom but we’re so happy we did this.

We purchased and had our washer and dryer installed at Camping World in Denton, Texas. It took about 5 hours for them to install and test them.

Separate Washer/Dryer or Combo Unit?

Whether you’re buying a washer-dryer combination unit or a washing machine and dryer separately depends on how much space you have at home. A set of separate machines takes up a little more space, but has more drying capacity, is more energy-efficient, and is faster.

Searching for which washer, dryer, or combo unit would be best for our situation we found out that if we did choose to go with a combo unit it needs to be vented. In the end, we decided with our closet a separate washer and vented dryer was the way to go.

We went with the Splendide Stackable Washer WFL1300XD and Dryer DV6400X.

Our Review

As Full-Time RVers this is the best upgrade that we have made to our motorhome so far. We love having our own washer and dryer finally! They work just like the expensive ones that we had in our house.

The Splendide DV6400X does a great job in drying a full load of laundry.

Normal household dryers are usually 240 volts. In an RV it’s not possible to have 240 volts so you need a 120-volt dryer. You’d think that a 120-volt dryer wouldn’t get clothes dry in a timely manner. But the Splendide DV6400X gets our laundry dry in 1 hour, about the same amount of time as our home dryer did.

The DV6400X is the matching dryer for the Splendide WFL1300XD washer, but in our opinion, it doesn’t truly match. The doors on both units are different shapes. We think for a match the doors should match too.

The only real issue we found with the dryer is that there is no buzzer for when the cycle is complete. We’ve had to re-run the machine for a bit to make sure the wrinkles are out of our clothes a few times. Learned we need to set an alarm on our phones to remember to empty the dryer on time.

The cost for both the washer and dryer installed in our motorhome at Camping World was just over $2800. You could save quite a bit of money installing them yourselves. On the road, we didn’t feel we had the time or place to do the installation ourselves otherwise we would have.

We average between $100-$120 per month on laundromats (and that price continues to rise) so these units will be paid for in approximately 2 years. Sooner with not having to spend time going to laundromats and waiting on our clothes. In our opinion, this was the best investment ever!

It’s been over a year now that we’ve had the washer and dryer. They continue to work great.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a dryer for your RV, Boat, or Tiny House look no further than the Splendide DV6400X dryer. It’s a workhorse for a small dryer. Using only 120 volts it’s amazing it dries as quickly as it does. With the costs of laundromats these days it’ll pay for itself in no time. Pared with the matching Splendide WFL1300XD washer they’ll handle most of your laundry needs easily.

  1. That is for the review we are getting ready to install this washer and dryer in our rig. Here is my question. How hot does the dryer get. We feel like it’s not getting hot enough, thermostat and heating element all works. I just have never used a RV dryer, so not sure on the average!

    • Hello Jen, Thank you for your question. One thing to remember with the RV dryer is that it works on 120 volts, not 220 like a home dryer. We feel it still gets plenty hot to dry our clothes. It normally takes between 60-70 minutes to fully dry a load of laundry in our dryer which is totally acceptable to us.

  2. Check Amazon reviews on this DV6400X dryer. You’ll find serious cause for pause in the reported (drum spinning) motor bearings failure.
    Expect to replace/upgrade the bearings!!

    • Thank you for your concern. On Amazon this machine has 4.2 out of 5 stars. There is one review that mentions bearing noise. Sure they could have received a bad machine, who hasn’t received something bad from Amazon? The other one star review on Amazon gives no quantitative information, just don’t buy it. I dismiss these reviews instantly. 72% of people on Amazon give this dryer five stars. We have had our DV6400X Dryer for almost 2 years and use it every single day with no issues. For a 120 volt dryer it does a great job drying our clothes quickly and quietly. In our opinion along with the Splendide WFL1300XD washer it is a must have item if you’re a full-time RVer.

      Thank you for your input,
      Rob

    • That bearing is a teardrop brass collar that is easily replaced and costs less than 10 bucks. It should be the first thing checked when your dryer starts squealing. These should be on anyone’s list of preventive maintenance if you’re a full time RVer not complaining about it.

      • Thank you for your comments Michael. I agree! So many people would rather complain when an issue arises than actually take the time to repair it themselves. Full-Time RVing is not something one should go into if they can’t do basic maintenance.

  3. Have you done research on all the complaints about how the Splendide DV6400X does not heat up for many owners? I am one of those customers. Brand new under warranty and only gets up to 88 degrees. Will never dry.

    • No, I haven’t seen anything about the DV6400X not heating up. Ours has been working well. It dries a load in about 60 minutes. Sorry to hear you’re having problems with yours. Hopefully, Splendide stands behind it.
